What I Have Been Up To

1 Jun

Hey Kiddos!

As always so sorry for my absence. Been a crazy week!

First and for most I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  Praying for all those who have served our country and are currently serving our country.

I have a cousin that is in the army but thankfully is still in the U.S. and hopefully won’t be deployed.  But on a sadder note my dear neighbors that I have known pretty much all my life are counting their blessings this week.  Their son is serving in the military in the Middle East and his unit was hit with a bomb a few days ago.  Fortunately their son survived with minor injuries but a few people in his unit weren’t so lucky.

Let us all be thankful for the men and women who fight everyday for our country and freedom.

My Memorial Day weekend was spent with lots of family time with T’s family.  Swimming, boating, eating my body weight in goodies, attempting to wake board, and just overall enjoying great company.  On Saturday we went to a small island called Tangier Island.  It’s an ity bitty island with a population of a whooping 500 residents.

I took a few pictures of the island for ya.

Here is a shot of the island as we are cruzing up to it.

A small plane coming in for a landing on the island.  Yep, they even have their own airport.

Tangier’s economy is almost solely based on crabbing.  There were thousands of crab pots.

I thought this sign was cute as you are pulling into the dock.

Words to live by via an ice cream shop.  After eating lunch at the Fisherman’s Cafe and then taking a tour of the island via golf cart we had to stop by this adorable ice cream store and get a cone.

If you have never ventured to Tangier Island I definitely recommend you take a trip out there. There are some of the sweetest people who live out there and just all around wholesome good folks.

Tangier is a famous island for many different reasons. The first being that they speak a unique English Restoration-era dialect.  When you listen to the natives speaking you can hear a slight accent in their speech.

The second thing Tangier Island is well not famous for, it’s more of travesty really but their island is sinking.  Erosion and rising sea levels are swallowing up the island.  So if you want to see this gem you will have to come sooner rather later.

The third thing that Tangier Island is famous for is their own ESPN commercial!

Check out the commercial here.

The commercial is great.  I asked a local if they knew anyone featured in the commercial and she said that her son was featured in it.  She also said that ESPN paid her $150 to use her clothes line in the commercial.  I thought that was pretty cool and you could tell by the sound of her voice and the smile on her face that it was the best surprise ever!

Ok so this turned out to be a really long post so I am going to break it up in a couple of parts.

How parts you ask?

Only time will tell…

Coffee Table Books and Cocktail Dresses

21 May

Hey Kids,

Good Monday Morning to you all!

I hope you all had a wonderful wonderful weekend. I most certainly did and am still not awake this morning. Just hanging out in a fog it feels like or maybe it’s my allergies… Who knows but I need to snap out of it fast.

I haven’t shared this with you all yet but I love love love coffee table books.

I love their look and how functional they can be.

But those beauties come at a pretty hefty price.  Therefore I have not invested in any so far.  So I took up my search on Amazon and found some pretty pretty coffee table books for really good prices.

These are a few I just bought.

Kate Spade Etiquette Books

Just a few little finds to start off my collection.  Over time I hope to get more.

Moving on to topic number two, cocktail dresses.  I have a few events/weddings to attend over the summer and in need a new cocktail dress.

I have been on an endless search for the right dress but unfortunately have come up empty-handed.  Everything I find is too plain or boring.  I did a search for some dresses from my favorite designers and found the look I am wanting in a dress.

Monogram Mania!

16 May

Good Morning Everyone!

True to my deep southern roots I love to monogram everything under the sun.  I say it’s just not official until you put a monogram on it.

True to Pinterest’s form of being both addictive and expensive (tends to give me  ideas of how to spend my money faster) I have found some wonderful ideas for monograms!

Summer Fun List

15 May

Hey Y’all!

So sorry for being MIA last week. I got sick on Wednesday and it just screwed up the rest of my week.  Still have a runny nose and coughing but I am 80% better than I was last Wednesday.

This past weekend I spent it at the Rivah!  It was beautiful and I had a wonderful time as always.  Spent the majority of the day on Saturday in a boating safety class and then a test following that.  I am happy to say that I passed and received my “boating licence”.  The rest of the weekend was spent eating, boating, hanging out with good people and just all around chilling out.

I was a bad blogger and didn’t take any photos and the only photo I have of this past weekend is of T bringing in the crab trap.

The traps were only out for a few days and we got a fair amount of crabs.

Ok moving on.

So this is a new week and a new agenda.  I came up with a little summer to-do list of fun things I wanted to get done this summer and I wanted to share it with you all.

These are just a few things I could think of off the top of my head and I have actually just thought of another thing I want to add to my list

- Blog at least 3 to 4 times a week!

That’s a biggie too cuz a lot work goes into making these posts gorgeous and spotless for you guys!

So there you have it, my summer to-do list and when I add more things to be done on the list I will let y’all know.

That is all for now.  Be back soon.

Recreating the Look

7 May

So I have told you all where I pull my fashion ideas from, well not it’s time to implement those fashion finds.

Usually when I see an outfit I really like I am missing a few key pieces in my closet that will be to create the outfit.  But the outfit I am sharing with you all today I didn’t have to spend any money to recreate the look.

Here is my inspiration:
